We’re introducing you to leading visionaries who are speaking out on topics from reproductive justice, to aboriginal rights, and how its time in birth to focus on more than the womb. These are people trail blazing cutting edge ideas in the area of women’s rights, environmental rights and human rights …you’ll learn something new, how to take BOLD action in your professional and personal life, and you’ll get connected with a community of like minds to make social change happen.

Speaker Bios

 

Kasti Cook on "Woman as an Environment." Click here to listen to a short clip. Katsi (pronounced Gudji) is an elder Mohawk midwife who works to promote processes of care, both clinical and socio-cultural, that support Native American women and girls in developing control of their reproductive power and voices. She is a nationally and internationally recognized community leader working at the intersections of environmental justice and reproductive justice. She currently serves as program director for First Environment Collaborative at Running Strong for American Indian Youth.

Loretta Ross on "Reproductive Justice, Racism & Human Rights." Click here to listen to 2 short clips. Loretta was a co-founder and the National Coordinator of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective from 2005-2012, a network of women of color and allied organizations that organize women of color in the reproductive justice movement. She’s a nationally-recognized trainer on using the transformative power of Reproductive Justice to build a Human Rights movement that includes everyone. 

Michel Odent on "Childbirth and the Evolution of Homo Sapiens." Click here to listen to a clip. Michel is the founder of the Primal Health Research Center in London and author of over a dozen books published in twenty-two languages. His most recent book is Childbirth and the Evolution of Homo Sapiens which will be the focus of his presentation.

Samsarah Morgan is speaking at 1.30pmPST/ 4.30pm EST on a panel discussion on birth trauma. Samsarah is an Interfaith Minister and Counselor, Apprentice Midwife, Family Life Coach, Birth and Postpartum Doula and Hypnotherapist. She is the founder & director of Nia Center for Birth and Family Life. She is also the director of the Birth Professionals of the Bay Area, which has for the past 18 years trained birth and postpartum care givers & educators, with a focus on compassionate care as well as an inner focus and healing of internalized oppression and racism.

Gena McCarthy is speaking at 1.30pmPST/ 4.30pm EST on a panel discussion on birth trauma. Gena is a perinatal psychotherapist, healer and community organizer trained in Shamanic, Buddhist and Cherokee Peacekeeper teachings and cross-cultural ways of healing. Gena is an EMDR certified therapist specializing in women and couple’s spiritual and emotional empowerment, enjoyment and growth in the journey of birth and parenthood including healing Birth Trauma.

Myrna Martin is speaking at 1.30pmPST/ 4.30pm EST on a panel discussion on birth trauma. Myrna is a Family Therapist and has worked with birthing families in different ways for 40 years. She teaches pre and perinatal health and psychology worldwide, and facilitates "Birthing Yourself" Process Workshops.

Karen Brody is speaking at 3pm PST/ 6pm EST on The Well-Rested Activist: From Burnout to Bright & Radiant Health. Karen is the playwright of Birth and founder of the BOLD Birth movement and Bold Tranquility, a yoga nidra meditation company for women. She'll speak briefly on the benefits of yoga nidra, a sleep-based meditation technique and then lead a 20 minute yoga nidra session to end the event. Come lie down & learn this powerful, easy & much-needed relaxation tool to relieve stress & the impact of over-doing on your body, mind & spirit.

Karen Brody (@Karen_Brodyis a dynamic mama changing the world, inspiring mothers, birth professionals and women entrepreneurs to “be the change” through their work, personal lives, and global commitment. She is the playwright of Birth -  known as “The Vagina Monologues for childbirth” -  and through Birth Karen founded BOLD, a global movement supporting birth visionaries to change the culture of birth. Today the BOLD movement includes The BOLD Method for Birth, a ground breaking “women’s empowerment meets childbirth education” approach,  an advanced online yoga nidra meditation pregnancy and postpartum training and Bold Tranquility, a yoga nidra meditation company for women ready to wake up and be BOLD.  She was a community organizer helping women rise up to their potential in Belize, Guatemala, Kenya, and the United States for a decade. Karen writes regularly for the Huffington post and has written dozens of articles and two health books. Karen will be ending the online summit event with her talk "The Well-Rested Activist: From Burnout to Bright, Radiant Health" and a 20 minute yoga nidra meditation session.
